Comments:

Syracuse and Utah met in the semi-finals of the National Collegiate Campus Tournament. The Orangemen would quickly jump out to an 8-3 lead, but Utah would tie it up 10-10, and the first quarter would end with Syracuse leading 13-10. Ed Miller was doing a terrific job rebounding, but he picked up two files in the first quarter and had to sit a bit. Syracuse would go on a run to start the second quarter, and pull the lead out to 21-12. Utah would make a series of baskets but Jack Kiley would match them shot for shot to keep the margin at 9, and Syracuse would go into the halftime leading 32-22.

The Orangemen would expand the lead to 47-29 early in the third quarter, and the Orangemen led 50-38 at the end of three. Coach Marc Guley had the starters all on the bench with about nine minutes to go in the contest when Utah started making a run. Ed Miller would foul out with about 2:48 go to, but the Orange played tough down the stretch and expanded the lead, eventually winning 74-57. Kiley would lead all scorers with 22 points.

Syracuse played without its leading rebounding Tom Huggins, who had scheduled his wedding months in advance of the tournament being scheduled.
