Comments:

This was the first meeting between Syracuse and North Carolina at the Carrier Dome in 30 years, and 32,121 fans showed up to see the beginning of the two schools ACC rivalry. North Carolina had been inconsistent upon entering the game with three wins against top 20 teams, and five losses against unranked teams.

The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 10-4 lead as they were transitioning well on offense, and Syracuse was uncharacteristically sloppy with the ball. North Carlina would lead 15-11 before the Orange would go on a 21-3 run to make the score 32-18. The score was 34-22 at the half, and the Tar Heels never got closer than 10 points at any point in the second half. The Orange led by 19 with 4:25 go to go.

DaJuan Coleman did not play as he continued to rest his bruised knee. Jerami Grant played extremely well in the first half with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Neither team shot very well. Syracuse dominated the interior play with a 17 to 10 offensive rebounding edge, and a 9-3 block shot advantage.
