Max Riehl was center and forward for Syracuse basketball for four years. He came to Syracuse as part of the Art Powell Buffalo connection. Riehl, Powell, George Kirchgasser, and George Redlein had all played high school basketball together in Buffalo, New York for Masten Park, and played together on the highly rated Buffalo Germans AAU Team.

Riehl was a reserve his freshman year, but a starter his sophomore, junior and senior years. He was a good ball handler and manned the center position well his last two seasons.

Riehl would be a prominent businessman and society member in upstate New York following graduation.

Riehl's younger brother Albert would later play basketball for Syracuse. Frank Riehl passed away in May of 1965.
