Bob McDaniel was a high scoring forward for Syracuse, who because of academic and personal issues would have a limited career for the Orangemen. McDaniel came to Syracuse with a reputation for being a great scorer, and he did not disappoint with an outstanding season on the freshman team. Academically, however, he was not able to make the grade, and he was not permitted to play his sophomore season. McDaniel was recognizable on the court with his trademark white headband, something uncommon for that era.

McDaniel would improve his grades his junior season and have a fine offensive season. He would lead the team in rebounding (getting a slight advantage when the team's leading rebounder Bill Smith was suspended for the last few games of the season). McDaniel would have a career high 36 points in a loss against LaSalle. He would shoot a blistering 18 of 23 from the floor for the game.

McDaniel was outstanding on the offensive end of the court, but not very good on the defensive end. He was having a disagreement with coach Roy Danforth [1] and chose to sit out the Bucknell game in protest. As a result, he would lose his starting position for a few games.

McDaniel would start out his senior season well with a 14 point, 14 rebound effort against Buffalo. However, he would miss a couple of practices following the game, and would be suspended indefinitely by Danforth. McDaniel would quit the team at that point.
