John Suder was a point guard for Syracuse University for three seasons. Suder was an outstanding free throw shooter, a strong playmaker and a excellent defender.

Suder was a reserve guard his sophomore season, until he replaced a slumping Ernie Austin. Suder would start most of the games in the second half of the season. He had missed some action in December as a result of a leg injury.

Suder would be a starter his junior and senior years. As a result of Austin having academic issues limiting his playing time, along with other players missing time, Suder would step up his scoring efforts his junior year. He would score a career high 21 points in a win over Brigham Young that December.

Suder was one of several Syracuse guards tasked with guarding Niagara guard Calvin Murphy, with little success. Murphy would score 50 points against Syracuse during Suder's sophomore year, and 68 against Syracuse during his junior year.

Suder would reduce his scoring opportunities his senior year as Austin, Bob McDaniel and Bill Smith all became big scoring options. He would injure his ankle against St. John's which forced him to miss a couple of games in the second half of the season.
