Dave Harmon was a reserve player for Syracuse for two seasons. Harmon was a quick player with explosive jumping ability, capable of playing both the guard and forward positions.

Harmon was in the Army out of high school. He attended Auburn Community College (NY) for two seasons after leaving the military.

Harmon transferred to Syracuse his junior season. He would be of value at guard his junior season, helping to fill the void of depth at that position with the graduation of Richie Cornwall, and Ernie Austin, who was ineligible for the first semester.

Despite his lack of height, Harmon was tabbed as the backup center his senior season. He would spend time at both the forward and center positions. When Bill Smith was suspended for his late season fight, Harmon would start at center against Canisius and Army, the only two starts in his varsity career. He would score 5 points in the win over Canisius, and only 2 in the loss to Army.

Harmon would graduate from Syracuse in 1970.
