Charlie Taggart played guard and forward for Syracuse University from 1932 to 1934. He split time with Elmer Maister as a starting guard his sophomore season. He was a strong defensive player, with that being his primary duty on the court, and he seldom looked to shoot. Syracuse went 29-4 in his junior and senior seasons, and he was part of the Charles Taggart -  US Navyundefeated 1931 freshman team. He also playeCharlie Taggart - Syracuse Basketballd halfback on the football team in 1931 and 1932.

Taggart was a lieutenant in the Navy in World War II serving aboard the escort destroyer USS Frederick C. Davis. Lt. Charles M. Taggart was killed along with 114 crew mates when the USS Frederick C. Davis was sunk on April 24, 1945 by a German U-boat off the Atlantic coast of Europe.
