Comments:

#5 Syracuse started out hot taking a 13-2 lead early in the game, and would lead 44-31 at the half. The Orange were shooting well and #10 Hoyas were struggling. Andy Rautins found his shooting touch and was lighting up Georgetown from the perimeter. Syracuse would pull out to a 23 point lead at 60-37 with 12:37 remaining in the game.

Syracuse would go cold and make only 3 field goals for the rest of the game, while the Hoyas finally found their shooting touch. Georgetown would close the score down to 67-65 with 3:12 minutes left in the game. The Hoyas were even closer with 1:10 to go when they were down 71-70, and had a chance to take the lead but missed a jumper.

Syracuse held the ball down the stretch while the Hoyas played tough defense. The Orange ran a set play with Kris Joseph driving the lane to the hoop with the ball, and he scored with 8.4 seconds left to give Syracuse a three point lead. On the inbound pass, Rautins would quickly foul Georgetown to prevent a three point shot attempt. The Hoyas would only make one of two free throws and Rautins grabbed the rebound. He was quickly fouled and he made both of his free throws to seal the win.

The Orange never trailed in the game, though the finish made it very nerve racking for the fans. Syracuse fans had managed to get many tickets to the game, and a sea of Orange shirts appeared to outnumber the Hoyas at their home court. The officiating was called very tight, and was questionable on both sides with 48 fouls and 54 free throws being taken. Fortunately for Syracuse, the Orange shot incredibly well from the free throw line making 90% of their shots (27-30).
