Comments:

Syracuse jumped out to an early 18-9 lead. Kansas State would rally behind Chuckie Williams, and would eventually take the lead at the half 38-36. Jimmy Lee would get into foul trouble and have to sit down about seven minutes into the second half with four fouls; he returned with about seven minutes left in the game. Syracuse trailed 66-62 before scoring eight straight points to take a 70-66 lead. The Wildcats would regain the lead 74-72 with 1:31 to play. Syracuse’s Jimmy Lee would make two free throws to tie the game at 74.

Rudy Hackett rebound versus Kansas StateThe Wildcats would stall of offense for nearly a minute to set up a game winning play. Chuckie Williams would sink a 20 foot corner shot to give the Wildcats a 76-74 lead with 5 seconds remaining.

Syracuse would inbound the ball to Jimmy Williams, who raced down the court. Williams would feed Rudy Hackett; Hackett would bobble the ball, but got a game tying five foot shot off at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

Syracuse would score first in overtime on a Hackett basket. Chuckie Williams would immediately tie it back up. The Orangemen would then score six straight points to get an 84-78 lead. With 1:43 remaining Jimmy Lee was fouled while making a layup. He completed the three-point lead and Syracuse had an 87-80 lead. Lee and Williams would both foul out for the Orangemen in the last minute of overtime, but Syracuse would hold on to win the game and advance to it’s first Final Four.
