Comments:

Syracuse played 18th ranked Oral Roberts Titans in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Orangemen would pull out to a seven point lead in the first half, before the Titans took the lead. Oral Roberts would lead at the half 43-41.

The game would be close throughout the second half. Syracuse was aided by six goal tending calls on the Titans in the game, while Oral Roberts benefited from Syracuse's poor free throw shooting.

The game was tied 74-74 when Syracuse's Rudy Hackett was fouled. Oral Roberts coach Ken Trickey call back-to-back time outs to rattle Hackett, and it worked as he missed both his free throws. Titan's Duane Fox missed a jump shot at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.

Fox would hit a short jump shot to start the overtime period, and the Titans would never trail again. Syracuse kept it close, and Hackett went to the free throw line with 38 seconds left, the Orangemen down 82-78. But Hackett would miss the front end of his one-and-one. Oral Roberts would go on to win 86-82.
