Comments:

Syracuse played the Penn Quakers in the East Regional Consolation game. The Orangemen shot poorly for the game, particularly the Lee brothers, who were a combined 2-14. Mike Lee had three fouls by halftime, and picked up his fourth with 16:42 left in the game.

Penn had its largest lead at 52-37 with 13:29 left to play in the game. The Orangemen would increase their pressure on defense getting several steals and forcing turnovers, as they would go on a 22-4 run over the next seven minutes to take a 57-56 lead.

Penn would retake the lead, and would hold a three point lead with 21 seconds remaining in the game. Syracuse's Rudy Hackett would tip in a missed basket from Dennis DuVal to bring Syracuse within one point with 13 seconds remaining. Mike Lee then deflected Penn's in-bounds pass, which DuVal was able to grab. DuVal drove to the hoop and passed it to Hackett who made a game winning layup with six seconds remaining. Larry Lewis missed Penn's last second shot to win the game. [1]
