Comments:

George Hicker set a Manley Field House record with 25 points in the first half of the game. Hicker finished with 33 points, and also made 15 of 18 free throws, with the 15 free throws also being a Manley record. Rick Dean picked up 3 quick fouls in the first half and had limited time in the game, but Vaughn Harper made up for it with 16 rebounds.

Army, coached by Bobby Knight, played a slow control tempo game as opposed to Syracuse's fast pace temp. Syracuse's full court press frustrated Army, resulting in many turnovers and fouls by the Cadets. Army did have a 17-13 lead early in the game, but Syracuse would score 10 straight to take a 23-17 lead. Shortly before the half Syracuse ran off another 12 straight points to get a 49-28 halftime lead. Syracuse would score the first 7 points of the second half, to extend to a 29 point lead. Hicker would not play much in the second half.
