Bill Finney was a forward for Syracuse for three seasons. He was the top scoring reserve his sophomore season, and moved into the starting line up the beginning of his junior season. He would lose his starting position midway through that season to Gerry McFadden.

Bill Finney Syracuse Orangemen BasketballFinney would miss the entire 1970-1971 season due to an achilles heel injury. He would return for his senior season in 1971-1972, but was an infrequently used reserve for the season.

Finney's younger brother Bob would play for Syracuse, and they would be teammates for his senior season.

Bill Finney would become the Marymount University (Arlington, VA) women's basketball coach in 1984, and would coach the team for 27 seasons. He compiled a 553-193 record, and won 11 CAC (Capital Athletic Conference) titles. He was four time CAC coach of the year, with sixteen trips to the NCAA tournament and one Women's Final Four.

Finney was named Marymount's Athletic Director in 1990, and has served in that capacity until 2010. He was also the first president of the Capital Athletic Conference.
