Drew would see more playing time at Syracuse, but not significant as the Orangemen had a very deep squad. He would be part of the rotation of players used by coach Jim Boeheim to spell his starters, and Drew would average 5.0 points a game at Syracuse.

In January of his junior season, Drew came off the bench against Temple, and quickly hit four baskets and made two free throws to spark Syracuse to a victory over Temple. Later that season, he would have some clutch baskets against Tennessee in the NCAA tournament, including five points in overtime, to help the Orangemen advance.

Bill's son Kevin would be a walk-on with the 2008-09 Syracuse basketball team for part of the season. Kevin would be a four year letterwinner for the Syracuse lacrosse team.
