Ronnie Gillespie was a three year starter for Syracuse basketball. He was a versatile player and would spend time playing anywhere from point guard to forward

Ron Gillespie Syracuse OrangemenGillespie would be a starter his sophomore season, earning the starting position the fifth game into the season. He would be third in scoring on the team his junior year, and was respected enough by his teammates to be the team captain his senior year. Syracuse had a bigger and faster team his senior year, so Gillespie spent a lot of time as the point guard. He would have a career high 27 points against Cornell in January of his senior year, and a personal high 10 assists in his last collegiate game which was against Rhode Island.

Gillespie would graduate from Syracuse in 1956. He would later teach his alma mater Waterford High School. He coached the Waterford varsity basketball team from 1960 to 1972, replacing Fred Morris. Morris was a former Syracuse basketball player and had coached Gillespie when he had played at Waterford.
