Mike Sheehey was a reserve swingman for Syracuse for two seasons. He was a solid perimeter shooter.

Sheehey found his playing time limited with the abundance of young players on Syracuse's squad, so he transferred to St. Bonaventure after his sophomore season. He would score 797 points in 59 career games with the Bonnies, for an average of 13.5 ppg. He helped lead St. Bonaventure to the NIT his junior season.

Sheehey was named the St. Bonaventure team captain his senior year. However, he was suspended for undisclosed reasons by his head coach Jim O'Brien. He was shortly re-instated to the team as a starter, but not as captain.
