Joe Guerra played forward for Syracuse varsity basketball for part of one season.

Joe Guerra Syracuse Orangemen BasketballGuerra was a star on the freshman team in 1921-1922. There were high expectations for what he might bring to the varsity his sophomore season.

Guerra would play in the first game, but was not impressing coach Eddie Dollard enough to warrant more playing time. Guerra would announce over the Christmas break that he was leaving school due to his lack of playing time, and transferred to Grove City College for the second semester.

Grove City would have some very good teams while Guerra was part of the squad. He played the second semester of 1922-1923 at Grove City. He was a star guard of the team for the 1923-1924 season and was named All Tri-State [1]. He would miss the entire 1924-1925 season due to a injury. He would return and play his senior season 1925-1926, and graduate that year.

Guerra would be a successful high school basketball coach in Western Pennsylvania. He would coach East Pike Run high school basketball for several seasons, along with also coaching football. He was professionally a teacher for the district, and would also serve as the athletic director.

Guerra passed away in 1970 [2].
