Johnny Cronauer was an agile forward who started for the Syracuse 1918 National Championship team.

John Cronauer - Syracuse OrangemenCronauer was a star on the freshman team in 1916 along with future stars John Barsha and Ken Lavin. The team would go 14-2, and gathered significant notice from varsity coach Eddie Dollard. Cronauer's first varsity start would be his first game of his sophomore year, alongside his older brother Ed Cronauer. John surprised many by leading the team with 19 points.

Cronauer would lead the Orangemen with fifty four field goals for the season, and would be second in scoring behind All American Joe Schwarzer. He started every game except one, where he sat in order to allow his brother Ed to start his last varsity game.

John passed away suddenly in September of his junior year. While home visiting his parents, he died of heart failure at the age of 20. [1]
