Giff Zimmerman played forward on the Syracuse basketball team as a sophomore in 1922. He was a star on the football field , a three year letterman, playing wingback, tailback and kicker in the 1921, 1922, and 1923 seasons. He was a high school teammate of fellow football / basketball player Ribs Baysinger.
Zimmerman joined the basketball team midway through his sophomore season. He made some immediate impact with his hustle, athletic talent, and ability to score, and would start six games.
He was also on the track team and president of the Syracuse student body.
Zimmerman played in the NFL for two seasons, with the Akron Zephyrs and the Canton Bulldogs. He scored two touchdowns with the Bulldogs in 1926.
