Gene Hopkins was a reserve forward on the Syracuse basketball team for one season. Hopkins was also on the Syracuse varsity football team as a sophomore. He was the star halfback the beginning of his sophomore season. However injuries shortened that season for him after a few games, and he would miss the rest.
He would play in five of the first six games for basketball his sophomore season, before leaving the team.
