Ernie Lotano played basketball for Syracuse University for one season as a reserve center.

Lotano played catcher for the 1954 Schenectady Little League World Champions. One of his teammates was Billy Connors, who would also be a teammate at Syracuse.

He was a reserve center his sophomore year. Lotano was a strong player inside with tremendous strength, but was inconsistent in his play and would split time with classmate Loren James, who also struggled with consistency.

Lotano, James, and Billy Connors would play for a YMCA team over the summer, which was against the NCAA rules at the time. As a result, the threesome were ineligible to play at Syracuse and Lotano would leave school. Lotano would later attend and graduate from the University of Albany.

Lotano taught social studies for over forty years at Van Corlaer, Mont Pleasant High, Schenectady High, and Catholic Central High. He passed away in September 2015. [1]
