Ernie Lotano played basketball for Syracuse University for one season as a reserve center.

Lotano played catcher for the 1954 Schenectady Little League World Champions. One of his teammates was Billy Connors, who would also be a teammate at Syracuse.

Lotano was a reserve center his sophomore year. He was a strong player inside with tremendous strength, but was inconsistent in his play and would split time with classmate Loren James, who also struggles with consistency.

Lotano, James, and Billy Connors would play for a YMCA team over the summer, which was against the NCAA rules at the time. As a result, the threesome were ineligible to play at Syracuse and Lotano would leave school.
