The Syracuse Orangemen and Valparaiso Crusaders first met in 1963, with the Orangemen winning easily 100-66 behind Chuck Richards 26 points and sophomore Dave Bing's 16 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists.
The two teams would not meet again for 39 years until 2002. This time the Orangemen beat Valpo 81-66 behind freshman sensation Carmelo Anthony and his 28 points.
Valparaiso changed the team nickname to Beacons in 2021.
