Syracuse was coming off a successful season, but losing four of its starters including its top two scorers and ballhandlers. Sharpshooter Matt Lee was the only returning starter, and Claude Fisher was the only other player with signficant experience from the previous year. Beal Banks would join the starting rotation and be named team captain.
Syracuse would start the season off with a close loss to underdog St. Lawrence. They were then soundly beaten by Penn. The Orangemen would recover to win two close one point games at home. They would hold on to a one point lead, despite a furious attempt by Colgate to score at the end, and beat the Maroons. The next game saw them beating Oberlin by a point behind the heroics of David Lee, who scored 22 of Syracuse's 26 points, including the game winner.
The Orangemen would go on a Eastern road trip against Williams, Dartmouth and Brown, and get blown out of all three games, by a combined score of 130-49. The Orangemen would win a close one point game over Tufts before returning home.
The Orangemen would go 3-4 down the stretch to finish the season at a disappointing 7-8.
